It was found that the liquidation amount generated in the cryptocurrency futures market reached $1 billion on Dec. 20 due to the sharp decline in the cryptocurrency market. According to data from the on-chain analysis platform CoinGlass on Dec. 20, after Bitcoin(BTC) plunged below $96,000, long(rising) and short(fall) betting liquidations recorded $878 million and $160 million, respectively, in the cryptocurrency market.
2. El Salvador May Accelerate Bitcoin Buys
The Bitcoin Office(ONBTC), a national agency dedicated to bitcoin affairs in El Salvador, said in an official statement on Dec. 19 that it will buy Bitcoin at a faster pace in the future. El Salvador signed a loan contract worth $1.4 billion with the International Monetary Fund(IMF) on Dec. 18 on the condition that it restricts the adoption of bitcoin in the country.
3. Two Bitcoin Mining Companies Acquire $500 Million Worth of Bitcoins
Marathon Digital, a large bitcoin mining company, and Hut 8 bought $500 million worth of Bitcoins in a joint purchase on Dec. 19. Marathon Holdings bought Bitcoin in large quantities last week, and this week, it launched Bitcoin, selling about 15,574 Bitcoin for two weeks. Marathon Holdings invested about $1.53 billion in Bitcoin stores for two weeks.
4. US SEC Approves Bitcoin, Ethereum Dual ETF
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission(SEC) announced the approval of the Bitcoin and Ethereum Mixed Exchange Fund(ETF) applied by Hashdex and Franklin Templeton on Dec. 19. Franklin Templeton obtained the SEC's approval within a day after submitting the ETF approval application on Dec. 19.
